Dear Esteemed Readers,
I am honored to pen this inaugural letter for The CAELi Review, a Celestial Arts Quarterly Publication, as its editor. This journal, brought to you by the Celestial Arts Institute, offers a platform to explore the cosmic "tilt" of life, a theme that has pervaded the pages of our magazine.
Life often presents us with challenges, making us feel as though the world is tilted against us despite our best intentions. However, our celestial studies remind us that these challenges are but steps in the grand design of the cosmic machinery. Without this "slant," life would lack its necessary complexity.
Imagine a world where the planets always moved forward, the zodiac signs rose perfectly straight, the year had a fixed 360 days, and the Earth had no tilt, resulting in unchanging seasons. Such a world would leave us with little to learn and explore. Instead, we should view these "slanting" signs as messages from the creator, encouraging us to embrace life's variations and find the beauty in its unpredictability.
The articles in this inaugural issue of The CAELi Review reflect this cosmic "tilt," both in the realms of society and science. From the injustices in the American Deep South to personal journeys of overcoming our inner "tilts" through astrological pilgrimages and the often-overlooked Islamic scientific achievements overshadowed by the later European Renaissance. We are also thrilled to present two articles delving into the Earth's axial tilt and precessional cycle, unveiling captivating mysteries about the grand astrological cycles of time.
The cover of this journal mirrors the inclinations of our craft. Our logo is displayed at a 23.5-degree angle, the same angle that our Earth's axis tilts toward the radiant Sun. This slight tilt symbolizes the space between perfection and imperfection, allowing room for our creative expressions. In the realm of astrology, it is the diversity and contradictions that nourish our interpretations, discussions, and artistic endeavors. The disagreements, varied perspectives, and profound questions enrich our comprehension of the cosmos and the human experience.
We are fortunate to be practitioners of this Mercurial art as we celebrate the space between the lines, nurturing the art within the science of observing celestial signs. Without the "tilt," we would have only facts, devoid of the room for personal catharsis that transforms our emotions and feelings into creative expressions. This is the essence of our journal's name, "Celestial Arts Quarterly." Every three months, in tune with the cross-quarters of the tropical seasons, we present fresh ideas, voices, and perspectives, aligning us with the "in-between" moments of our time and space.
Our mission with this journal is to showcase talented astrologers from diverse backgrounds and practices, fostering conversations about the developments in our astrological zeitgeist. We aim to explore cutting-edge approaches to working with, recognizing, and living within the astrological tradition. The grand tapestry of the cosmos unfolds before us, weaving together a rich array of insights and philosophies, and we hope you relish the journey.
Continue to create within the cosmic "tilt,"
Cameron Cassidy Editor-in-Chief, The CAELi Review
